Learning and Knowledge
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (2021), that aims to provide children with a wide range of knowledge and skills to start their education.
The key principles of this curriculum are as follows:
-
Making each child unique
-
Building positive relationships
-
Learning and development
-
Creating enabling environments

Learning Journeys
Each child has their own Learning Journey which is completed during their time with us and then the information is passed on to schools in the borough when the child starts school.
At Jelly Beans your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through seven areas of learning and development. We want your child to move onto their next level of learning as a resilient, capable, confident and self- assured child. Through building positive relationships with peers and staff and an enabling environment we hope that the children will have an enjoyable experience with us.
Prime Areas
In their early years we cover the three prime areas that are most essential for your child's healthy development and future learning. These are:
-
Communication and Language,
-
Physical Development, and
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
As your child grows these skills will help him or her to develop skills in four specific areas. These are:
-
Literacy,
-
Mathematics,
-
Understanding the World, and
-
Expressive Arts and Design.
Your child's learning and activities are planned around these seven areas. The staff teaching and supporting your child will make sure that the activities are suited to their unique needs and interests.

Special needs
Our Policy
It is our policy to make sure that our provision meets the needs of every child, therefore we take into account any special needs or disabilities a child may have and welcome all children. We have a good history of working with outside agencies and if necessary, we will liaise with all those involved with a child's care including our area Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator (SENDCO), paediatricians, health visitors, physiotherapists, psychologists, speech therapists and portage workers.
Code of Practice
Parents are very closely involved in this process and we welcome all professional groups to visit the children and talk to our SENDCO to plan how best to support the children. Jelly Beans Pre-school fully meets the requirements of The Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice.
Please also see the Sutton Local Offer.
Concerns regarding your child
If at anytime a parent/carer has any concerns about their child's development they are encouraged to talk to Clare our Senco. We know that, you as the parent, know your child the best so we are always here to listen should you have any concerns.
We are here to offer advice and support if needed and work closely with our local authority and other professionals in supporting the child's individual needs and any plans that may already be in place.
We regularly attend local authority run SENCo courses and have completed relevant training in Signalong, speech and language and autism.
